David Chorlton was born in Austria and grew up in Manchester, England, close to rain, soccer, and industry. After several trips to visit family in Vienna, he decided to move there in 1971. During the next seven years he rode many trains around Europe, gave his first poetry reading, pursued his visual art, and married Roberta, a violinist from Arizona. The two moved to her home city of Phoenix and the subsequent exposure to desert and its wildlife came to influence David's writing and social attitudes. He has helped in the organization of many local poetry projects over the years as well as publishing his work in small press magazines around the country. At home he enjoys listening to an eclectic range of music from the medieval to French chansons to Mahler to Ian Tyson's western songs, while he and his wife take what chances they can to look for birds around Arizona. They're always happy to find plenty of books waiting for them back at the house.
